Win 3.1 with Trumpet Winsock
Trumpet Winsock is a Shareware WINSOCK add-on for Windows 3.1. It has
WINSOCK and SLIP support built-in. Much appreciation and thanks
is hereby heaped up to Doug Walsh.
Ready Made Package
George Imburgia has
made a ready-to-go self-extracting archive complete
with Trumpet Winsock and the needed config files set up and ready to go (with
some minor tweaks noted below). Remember, Trumpet Winsock is shareware and
you are bound legally to purchase it after you try it and want to keep it.
slirp.exe
is a self extracting zip file that contains all the files you need to
get slirp running with winsock. (A collection of Windows 3.x applications
is available at TUCOWS)
1) Copy slirp.exe to a directory on your hard drive.
2) Run slirp.exe
3) Run tcpman.exe (it gets created by slirp.exe in the same directory)
4) Answer the Login: and Password: prompts as you would in lab.
If the preset configuration doesn't work with your modem, run
tcpman.exe. Pull down the _File menu and select _Setup. In the box
labeled "Slip port" fill in the com port your modem is on (you will need to quit
tcpman and restart it for the change to take effect). If you don't know
what port that is, run a terminal program that works with your modem and see
what port that's set to.
Open the file login.cmd with notepad. Replace the "AT&F1M0" on the 4th
line with an init string that works with your modem. You can also get this from a
terminal program that's already working.
