Fluid Mechanics Laboratory
Programs & Courses | Lab equipment
Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Technology Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, located in room E101 at the Stanton Campus. The lab is equipped to provide a variety of laboratory learning experiences in Fluid Mechanics Hydraulics and HVAC systems Air Flow.
The Fluid Mechanics Lab supports the following programs and courses:
Mechanical Engineering Technology
HVAC Design Technology
Environmental Technology
Civil Engineering Technology
Chemical Process Operator
MET-241 Fluid Mechanics
CET-230 Principles of Environmental Systems
The lab is equipped with the following equipment:
Gravimetric Hydraulics Benchs
Discharge through an Orifice Apparatus
Venturi Meter(Bernoulli) Apparatus
Friction loss in a Pipe Apparatus
Flow measurement
Losses in piping systems apparatus
Four Column Stand
Air Flow Apparatus
Dead Weight Pressure Tester
|
Gravimetric Hydraulics Benchs
A mobile self-contained bench to provide a variable supply of water to a series of interchangeable bench-mounting or floor-standing hydraulic and fluid mechanics experiments.

|
Discharge through an Orifice Apparatus
An apparatus to study of the discharge of water through a vertically mounted orifice.

|
|
Venturi Meter (Bernoulli) Apparatus
An educational Venturi tube that allows students to study the Venturi meter and Bernoulli's Theorem, and make direct comparisons between the results obtained by experimentation and those predicted by theory.

|
|
Friction loss in a Pipe Apparatus
A bench mounting apparatus used to allow students to investigate friction losses in a small-bore horizontal pipe under laminar and turbulent flow conditions.

|
|
Flow measurement
Investigates the different ways of measuring flow, including a Venturi meter, an orifice plate and a rotameter. At the same time shows applications of the steady flow energy equation (Bernoulli's equation).

|
Losses in piping systems apparatus - A large free standing apparatus.
An apparatus used to allow students to investigate the friction losses in piping systems. The large open format of the apparatus makes it ideal for students working in small or large groups.

|
Four Column Stand
Students learn about pressure, head, surface area and discharge through an orifice.
|
|
Air Flow Apparatus
Students perform lab experiments with a fan forced duct work system. The system has interchangeable duct components such as orifices, elbows and Venturi. Measurements include velocity, area, pressure, pressure loss, flow.
